Picasso was one of the most influential and productive artists of the 20th century. He worked in many mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, and theatre design. By the age of seven, Picasso was already creating sophisticated drawings and paintings. In the 1890's, he studied art in Barcelona and by 1904, he was living in Paris and immersed in the avant-garde art scene. Picasso's art is generally categorized in "periods". From 1908-1912, together with artist Georges Braues, he created the style known as Analytic Cubism. The goal was to reduce three-dimensional objects from nature to the two dimensions of canvas, This style is characterized by spreading the planes out of geometric solids.
